Congratulations to the team of Pool Doctor Triclean, servicing pools since 1961! 

The first sights of summer are upon us and it's time to get our pools ready during the spring for those outdoor bbqs, pool parties and gatherings with family and friends!  Christmas holidays are just around the corner and we want you to relax and enjoy your backyards. 

This issue will focus on how to get your pool ready for the summer to enjoy a crystal blue, beautiful pool throughout the season.  We'll give you some handy tips and hints to remember to keep your pools sparkly clean, be energy efficient and have a bit of fun with our new competition!

Spring tips...

By taking action now, this will ensure that you will have a gorgeous and clean pool.  Having your pool cared for year round will help maintain the life of your pool and your equipment.  There will be less need for repairs and replacements which saves you money in the long run.  

• Empty your skimmer baskets regularly, daily depending  on your pool location.  Going away on holidays?  Make sure you have someone to do it for you.  This minimizes the amount of leaves and debris that will end up on the bottom of the pool. Also, it's a good idea to empty them after a storm or if you have just had the gardening done.
• Keep the trees and foliage around the pool trimmed back to prevent leaves, sticks and the occasional bug ending up in the pool. 
• Understand the chemical changes that can occur in your pool.  The sun can evaporate 95% of the chlorine in your pool on a hot day in 3 ½ hours. These changes can also occur due to debris and leaves sitting in the pool, evaporation, storms, people swimming, and even dead animals.

New Products...

Pool Cleaner:

We know you have all been waiting for it...the Baracuda MX8 Advanced Suction Pool Cleaning Robot is finally here!!  The Baracuda MX8 has made its debut in Australia during August this year and it is fantastic!  We have trialled it and we know that you'll love it.  It will clean the pool floor; climb the walls up to the water line, captures more debris than other cleaners and it is super fast.  It has double cyclonic suction power, a wider cleaning path and 20% larger debris inlet. The bonus feature in the product is that it is highly efficient.  It maximizes power while minimizing resistance therefore it runs at maximum power at low flow. 

As we mentioned in our previous newsletter, the MX8 is best suited to replace the traditional disc and mechanical suction cleaners. 

Pool Lights:

L.E.D. lights are available and very chic this year!  They are a great way to rejuvenate your pool area.  Not only do they look fantastic, the technology behind them is amazing.  L.E.D lights have an amazing lifespan and should last around 50 times longer than your current halogen lights.  They come in a range of colours: white, blue, green or the ever-popular multi-colour with changing programs. 

These lights have recently become popular for a number of reasons.  Firstly, they are energy efficient (which we love!), they last a long time and lights have dropped in price.  They can be retro-fitted to most pool lights, easy to install, and there is no need to purchase a new transformer as they operate from a variable voltage supply.  Plus, there is no need to drain the pool to install them. 

Zodiac ePumps:

In our last newsletter we featured the Zodiac ePump. 

Have you received your electricity bill lately?  Remember, your pool is one of the largest energy consuming devices in your household.  Are you now looking for creative ways to reduce that bill this season?  We cannot recommend the Zodiac ePumps highly enough to reduce energy consumption. 

By using a variable speed pump, it could save you up to $600 per year.  They are really quiet so you can also run them at night during the cheaper off peak rates and the Zodiac ePump has a fantastic 7-star energy rating as opposed to your current pump which only has a 2-3 star rating. 

Out and About...

Some of you might have seen us recently at Northbridge Shopping Centre August 22-27^th.  It was a great week to meet with new people, run into a few clients and show off a few new products. 

Our focus is always energy efficiency so of course we had a few related giveaways including shower timers, room temperature gauges and energy-usage calculators.

Jump in Early!

During the summer months will be launching a leisure diving competition! 

Send in your photos of yourself or someone you know taking on a position that appears to be relaxing while jumping into the pool (please be safe!).  Popular positions include falling asleep on a pillow, in a seated position reading a book, or appearing to walk in mid-air.  Watch out for those belly-flops! 

A fantastic project to get the kids involved in over the school holidays. 

The most creative, funniest or best photo will win a Zodiac Barracuda T5 Duo Suction Pool Cleaner (RRP $800) and a $100 gift voucher from Westfield.

Competition starts 1^st Oct 2011 and ends 1^st Feb 2012.  Winners will be announced 14^th of February because we love your pool ♥

Keep kids safe....teach them to swim.

The holidays are the perfect time to get your kids into the pool for some extra lessons.  They can never be too young to learn to swim and learn about pool and water safety. 

Short story...while on holiday recently, my four year old daughter was in a very small swimming pool but was over her head in the deep end.  She was hanging on at the edge of the deeper end, while the big kids were at the shallower end.  As the big kids created some natural waves, it was enough to quickly draw her away from the edge and it sucked her under the water.  As I was within reach of her I decided (against all natural instincts!) to see what she would do in that situation as I continually reassured her that she was okay.  She tried to roll over on her back, caught her breath, then swam to the pool's edge and climbed out all on her own.  Although we were both extremely shaken, she confidently told me what her swim teacher told her just two weeks before in her water safety lesson - to roll over on her back, catch her breath, then swim to the edge and climb out. 

Even though children can be very well supervised, it can take a fraction of a second for them to be not in control of their own situation.  Empowering them to know what to do will make the difference.  They will become more confident and stronger swimmers.

July 2011: New Energy Efficient Pool Pumps on Offer

Did you know that your swimming pool pump is one of your largest energy consuming devices in the house, second only to an electric hot water heater?

I have been attending conferences for the past two weeks and learning about the latest innovations and trends in the pool industry both locally and abroad in order to provide you with the best service and products.

Since attending the Pool & Spa Expo last November in Las Vegas, we have been aware of a global push industry-wide to make pumps more energy efficient and effective at an affordable price.

Energy Australia has begun a move to raise consumer awareness on the power consumption of equipment, including pumps, by using the familiar Star Rating guide. This is a similar Star Rating to your washing machines, dryers and dishwashers to help you make economical and ecological decisions about your purchases.

The new variable speed pumps and 3-speed pumps have a Super Efficient Rating of up to 7 Stars compared to your existing pump which would have a star rating between 2 - 3 Stars. Not only do these pumps run more efficiently but are also whisper quiet which means you can run them during the cheaper off peak rate at night.

Given the potential cost savings of up to $600 per annum, we see this as a practical and worthwhile investment which will pay for itself in as little as 2.5 years depending upon your current rates and running times. This range of pumps come with a 3 & 4 year warranty and can be integrated with your current automated control systems and the latest Tri-Series Salt Chlorinators. 

Other areas of breakthrough in the industry are in pool heating technology. This has brought down the cost of heat pumps (pool heaters) and uses much less power to heat your pool increasing your use of the pool and comfort level. This will reduce the average cost of each swim you take because you will use your pool more often at a more comfortable temperature.

Until September 30, 2011, Zodiac is offering a $200 installation rebate on their heaters and until July 31, 2011 they are offering a free Aqualink System (a handheld PDA remote to fully automate your pool lights, jets, cleaner, and heater from a waterproof wireless remote control) valued at $3500 when you purchase a heat pump. This is a fantastic offer simply because the cost of the heating system merely starts at $2999 incl gst.

I had to tell you about this offer simply because it is the best deal I have ever seen. Even if you just wanted to automate your pool, it would be cheaper to buy a heat pump whether you use it or not.
